Sarah’s Circle

Sarah’s Circle

November 15, 2014, 10:00am-12:00pm

Our November meeting will be on Saturday, November 15th from 10 AM until 12 noon, in the Fellowship Room from 10 a.m. until 12 noon, with those who wish to meditate coming at 9:30 a.m.  Our book choice is Orange is the New Black, by Piper Kerman.  Heartbreaking, hilarious, and at times enraging, Kerman’s story offers a rare look into the lives of women in prison—why it is we lock so many away and what happens to them when they’re there. We need a volunteer for someone to lead the meeting, as I will be on vacation.  Please contact Merrith to volunteer or if you have any questions. We also need volunteers for milk/cream and goodies. All women are invited.

October 11, 19, and 26, 2014

Arlington EATS

For the next three Sundays — October 11, 19, and 26 — we’ll be collecting cans of tuna, juice boxes, pancake mix, and canned vegetables for Arlington EATS, a local program that supplements food during weekends and holidays when the school breakfast and lunch that some may depend on to help feed their families is not available.  Please place donations under the table in the narthex in the bin marked Arlington EATS.

The church received the following letter from Arlington EATS thanking us and asking us for our continued support:

Thanks in large part to your generosity, Arlington EATS –a program that began only a few short months ago– has been able to start addressing very real food scarcity issues that can occur when school is not in session.

In Summer 2014, Arlington EATS…

  • Served about 200 meals per week
  • Provided 30-40 weekend bags of food to families each week
  • Raised nearly $10,000 from local families and organizations
  • Donated $2,500 to programs at Arlington Boys and Girls Club and Fidelity House, which provided daily food for up to 75 children
  • Gathered 60 adults and children to help make, drop off & distribute food, fundraise, coordinate and manage logistics

Beginning in Fall 2014, Arlington EATS will..

  • Have fresh fruit and healthy snacks available for any child who comes to school hungry
  • Distribute weekend food bags to families who opt-in to the program
  • Offer easy and fast volunteer opportunities (with kids!)

We would love to have your help!..

  • Sign up to help package weekend food: http://goo.gl/hcMYjo
  • Donate healthy and easy-to-eat snacks for distribution to several elementary schools:
  • Donate food for the Weekend Food Bags. We especially need donations of:
    • Cans of Tuna
    • Juice Boxes
    • Pancake Mix
    • Canned Vegetables
  • Visit the website to make a donation or see other volunteer opportunities: www.arlington-eats.org

Sarah’s Circle

Saturday, October 18, 10:00 a.m.

We will be discussing The Ear of the Heart: An Actress’ Journey from Hollywood to Holy Vows.  Dolores Hart stunned Hollywood in 1963, when after ten highly successful feature films, she chose to enter a contemplative monastery. Now, Mother Dolores gives this fascinating account of her life, with co-author and life-long friend, Richard DeNeut. We need volunteers for goodies and milk/cream for coffee.   All women are invited to come to the Fellowship Room at 10:00 a.m. or, if you would like to meditate prior to the meeting, at 9:30 a.m.

Youth Summer Mission Trip

Youth Summer Mission Trip

Sunday, October 12, 2014

Members and youth who went on the youth mission trip to the Adirondacks will sharing our trip experiences during the worship service on Sunday, October 12.  We traveled to Warrensburg, New York, in July where we helped lead a camp for local children, visited at a nursing home, and painted, stacked firewood, cleared a trail, worked in a community garden, and much more. We met residents who shared some of their stories and favorite places with us, and we all gathered for a community barbecue at the end of the week. It was an incredible week of hard work and fun, putting our own needs aside to help others, meeting new people, and thinking about our faith in new ways. We’re looking forward to sharing our trip with the congregation who supported our trip in so many ways—from air mattresses to gas for the van.

Sunday, October 5, 2014, 11:45 a.m.

In honor of St. Francis’ love for all animals, PACC will have a Blessing of the Animals at 11:45, underneath the trees in front. Bring your pet, or bring a picture of your pet if s/he doesn’t tolerate crowds or other animals well. Pastor Bill will offer a special blessing for your pet, and we’ll have biscuits for dogs. Tell your friends and neighbors and invite them to bring their pets!
