About Us

Park Avenue Congregational Church, UCC was founded in 1899.  We are part of the United Church of Christ, formed from the merger of four denominations in 1957 (see What We Believe on the UCC website and our Minister’s message).  In true Congregational tradition, we have a grass-roots type of government, in which we elect our council of deacons and call a pastor of our choosing.  Our parish hall provides us with a place to ‘congregate’ and enjoy coffee, snacks and fellowship after our 10AM worship service every Sunday.  We believe that each of us is called to Christ’s ministry, so we have organized ourselves into seven ministries to accomplish the work of our church:

We hope that all of our members are inspired to use their enthusiasms and talents for Christian service in one (or more) of these ministries. Our mission statement expresses our purpose and our goals enumerate how we strive to achieve this.  We welcome all into the full life of the church, and to quote our Open and Affirming statement, ‘In our calling to express the love and welcome of Christ, we affirm the dignity and worth of every person.’
