Faith and the Environment

Faith and the Environment

Sunday, April 19, 11:30 AM

With Earth Day approaching, Sunday, April 19, it is an appropriate day to start a discussion on Faith and the Environment.  Each person has their own ideas on this topic based on their personal experience and values.  Most scientists, including my cousin who conducted research in the rain forest, are saying that it is becoming increasingly clear that the next generation will begin to bare the brunt of significant environmental degradation.

As you are aware, Tim During and others have begun to look at various possible actions the Church may want to consider including an energy audit.  This meeting  however, is not about tasks and assignments but rather provides an opportunity for us to share our feelings and concerns.  Having interviewed a number of you for Spire articles, I know that many have a special feeling for nature.

As a thought provoking lead into this discussion, take a look at the music video by Eric Whitacre “Fly to Paradise” at the link below.  I would love to know if it triggers any reactions and I will be happy to share mine at the meeting.

If you cannot attend, please feel free to forward your ideas to me.  I will be working on an article and would like as much input as possible.  -Kathy Fink
